Sony Open in Hawaii Golf Tourney in 3D

Comcast will bring its digital customers the Sony Open in Hawaii golf tournament in next-generation 3D on its Xfinity 3D channel this weekend. Customers will be able to experience the Waialae Country Club’s par 70 (35 front 9, 35 back 9) greens, bunkers and unique landscape, all in next-generation 3D.

The Golf Channel will produce and distribute the Sony Open in Hawaii in next-generation 3D as well as broadcast the event live in standard-definition and high-definition.

The Sony Open in Hawaii marks the first full-field PGA Tour tournament of the 2011 season, with defending champion Ryan Palmer and many of the world’s top golfers teeing off. The event is also the largest charity event in Hawaii and has raised over $10 million dollars for the local nonprofits since 1999. There will be live 3D coverage of six holes with immediate re-airing of the holes in 3D on Comcast’s Xfinity 3D channel Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and then live coverage Sunday starting at 3:30 p.m. Scenes will be repeated afterward throughout the days.

Comcast customers can watch the Sony Open in Hawaii in next-generation 3D live on Comcast’s Xfinity 3D channel. Comcast’s Xfinity 3D channel will also re-air the tournament in 3D immediately after the linear broadcast.
