Nationwide, this year, Comcast is partnering with the Food Network to bring “Good Food Gardens” to Comcast Cares Day sites in Philadelphia, PA, Washington, D.C., Chicago, IL, and Portland, OR. Good Food Gardens are educational gardens that offer children and their families fun, hands-on gardening experiences that inspire healthy eating habits for life. Non-profit community organizations and local chapters of the National Urban League and the National Council of La Raza will also join Comcast volunteers and work together during Comcast Cares Day.

“Each year, I am proud to join thousands of Comcast employees and volunteers participating in Comcast Cares Day projects across the country,” said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. “It is truly inspiring to be a part of such an incredible effort that helps so many people and organizations in the communities we serve.”

Since the first Comcast Cares Day took place in 2001, volunteers have devoted over 1.3 million hours of service to communities across the country. On Saturday, the 55,000 volunteers are expected to donate another 330,000 hours of service at more than 550 projects in 39 states and the District of Columbia, bringing the total service hours during all Comcast Cares Days to nearly 1.7 million.

“Comcast Cares Day is one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the country and is also a celebration of our sustained commitment to our communities,” said Comcast Executive Vice President, David L. Cohen. “Whether it’s enhancing the digital literacy skills of children from low-income backgrounds or providing college scholarships to the leaders of tomorrow, Comcast has a year-round spirit of giving back and helping others.”

Since the inception of Comcast Cares Day, the Comcast Foundation has contributed grants totaling more than $8 million to local community partner organizations. This year, it will once again donate significant grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year and help power the dreams of neighborhoods nationwide.

Comcast supports the communities we serve by providing access to innovative technology, volunteering our time, giving financial support and partnering with organizations to make our communities stronger. We focus our community investment initiatives on building tomorrow’s leaders, promoting community service and expanding digital literacy. Since 2001, we have provided $1.8 billion in cash and in-kind support to national and local non-profit organizations in 39 states and Washington D.C.
